Homemade Deodorant

My crafty friend who recommended muesli to me recently made deodorant and lip balm.  I ordered the stuff for both from Mountain Rose Herbs and got it today, and purchased from ylang ylang from Whole Foods.  Despite being VERY tired I decided to whip up a batch of deodorant.

Now I admit I LOVE ylang ylang.  It’s my favorite essential oil, lavender is close on its heels though.  There’s sweet orange oil in it too, but ylang ylang is the dominant scent.  Here’s where I admit that I seriously thought about smothering myself with cocoa butter.  The smell is a-mazing.  I also sampled some of it since the cocoa butter I got is food grade.  It tastes good too.  😉

Homemade Deodorant by Angry Chicken

3 Tablespoons shea butter
3 Tablespoons baking soda
2 Tablespoons corn starch
2 Tablespoons cocoa butter
2 vitamin E oil gel caps (puncture and squeeze out the oil)
Essential Oil (I used ylang yang and sweet orange)

Melt all the ingredients (except the oils) and give it a good stir. Then add the oils, stir again and it in a jar.  Place it in the fridge or freezer to set.

I used 2 plastic jars that are 2oz each that I got with my Mountain Rose Herbs order.  You could also do like Angry Chicken did and use a 1/4 pint jar.

Tomorrow I shall try this.  I will make an update in a week or two on how it’s working.  I too have used Lush’s Aromacreme, and while I like it it is expensive.  It’s also dried my armpits out badly, and frankly it doesn’t smell nearly as nice as what I just made.  😉

    • So far so good. I put some on after my shower this afternoon and so far there’s no stink. I don’t know if you’ve ever used Aromacreme from LUSH but it makes you feel like you should wash your hands right after applying it. With this stuff I almost washed my hands just out of habit, but then decided to just rub it into my hands. They felt super soft, here’s hoping my armpits benefit from it like my hands did. 😀
